Happy Birthday Michelin Microwave

Today, November 28th is Michelin Microwave’s first birthday. It’s been an emotional year. There have been highs – Barry Norman Pickled Onions . There have been lows – Loyd Grossman Tomato and Garlic Sauce.

There has been some lovely feedback – thank you Jay Rayner. There has been some criticism – thank you anonymous dude on a forum who commented on some  terrible typos and punctuation.

There have been some shocks – I’m talking about you Mary Berry. There have been some pleasant surprises – largely from rugby players, Matt Dawson and Lawrence Dallaglio.

I am aware that some posts have been better than others. Some weeks it was tricky to find the time, others the blogs just wrote themselves. Thank you for sticking with it and for taking the time to read my musings. I hope they have brought some joy. I hope they have put you off eating some disgusting things. I hope they have helped you discover some things you wouldn’t have otherwise bothered with.

Over the course of the year it has become apparent that you can trust Heston Blumenthal – his Waitrose range rarely disappoints. The same can not be said for Levi Roots. Some of his products are incredible, some are horrendous. It’s like ready meal Russian roulette putting a Reggae Reggae meal in your basket.

And so to round off the year I thought I’d give a quick run down of the top 5 and bottom 5 products, and here they are:

Top 5

Barry Norman Hot and Spicy Pickled Onions 9/10

Gregg Wallace Cajun Wedges 9/10

Harry Hill – Salted Cashews 9/10

Levi Roots Reggae Reggae Chicken With Rice & Peas 9/10

Heston from Waitrose Cauliflower Truffle Macaroni Cheese 9/10

And then the bottom 5 horrors:

Aldo Zilli Puttanesca from Morrison’s 2/10

Heston from Waitrose Curry Spiced Popcorn 2/10

Simon Rimmer Thai Spiced Potato Cake Mix 2/10

Loyd Grossman Tomato and Chilli Sauce  3/10

Gordon Ramsay Seriously Good Spicy Red Curry  3/10

So there you have it. A year of celebrity endorsed goods. Here’s to the next year – I’ll try and be funnier, I’ll try and take better photos and I’ll try to dig out more celebrity endorsed gems!

Yours,

Michelin Microwave

    Loving it.
I love reading the good, bad & the questionably bizarre.
I would like an app from you so I can quickly read & check things while I’m out & about.
Also request you to review things… That’s a great app idea.
My friends definitely enjoy the giggle your blog brings too.
    Keep them coming.

  3. Happy birthday! A fantastic year’s reading and look forward to many more.

Especially loving the products you’ve been choosing to review, and that means *all* your choices, not just the ones from a certain chef / supermarket 😉

The Roux review is definitely the best so far! Love rereading that one 🙂
